Tea Tourism in Georgia

Georgia is one of the closest major teamaking countries to Europe, a short and cheap flight away from most major European capitals. While Georgia is most famous on the touristic map for many other reasons – its ancient traditions of winemaking, its unique music and folklore, and its rich architectural heritage of churches and fortresses – many visitors come to Georgia for the opportunity to visit tea plantations in person as well. Many Georgian tea makers operate a family guesthouse in addition to their factory, offering visitors a unique opportunity to experience the famous Georgian hospitality at the hands of those who know tea best. Other tea makers who don't have such facilities are nonetheless thrilled to meet visitors interested in tea, offer tastings of their production, give tours of their plantations and factory, and discuss shared passions with their guests. Anyone who is interested in tea and planning a trip to Georgia should certainly consider the option of visiting some tea makers during their journey – and of course, some bags of fine Georgian tea make a wonderful, lightweight souvenir to take home!
